The epic redevelopment of a historic community resource.

From it's origins in the mid-1800s as the main street of a sleepy little town, to the shopping area of a turn-of-the-century summer retreat, to one of the city's strongest and most frequented shopping districts in the mid 1900s, the Waverly Shopping District has rightfully earned it's place in the hearts and history of Baltimore City. Today's Waverly Shopping District, however, while surrounded by strong and attractive mixed-demographic neighborhoods and within proximity of two major universities, shows very little of it's former glory, and contributes very little to it's surrounding neighborhoods. Greenmount Partners was formed with the sole mission of making the Waverly Shopping District once again into a vibrant shopping district through cleanup, commercial redevelopment, greening and community arts.

A partnership between neighborhoods, the city, and private development.

Streetscaping

Over $40 million in combined infrastructure improvements funded by the city, state and federal government will take place between 2019 and 2021, including over $10 million in sidewalk, lighting and softscape enhancements.

Main Street Program

An ongoing city funded program to assist retail merchants and other business owners in the Waverly Shopping District with marketing, promotions, technical support, grant money and other financial and programming support.

Neighborhoods

The primary service area of the Waverly Shopping District are the vibrant and historic neighborhoods of Oakenshawe, Waverly, Better Waverly, Abell, Charles Village and Harwood, as well as the nearby JHU Homewood campus.

Development

A $20 million redevelopment of over two dozen addresses along the Waverly Shopping District under the guidance of the Waverly Master Plan, conceived by the Waverly Main Street program and surrounding neighborhood groups.
